Engin Eroglu (born February 12, 1982 in Ziegenhain (Schwalmstadt) ) is a German politician and chairman of the Free Voters Hessen , as well as deputy Free Voters federal chairman. In May 2019 he was elected to the European Parliament for his party . Eroglu was formerly a member of the Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen party .

Professional career

From 2002 to 2005 Eroglu completed an apprenticeship as a bank and savings bank clerk at the Kreissparkasse Schwalm-Eder . After completing his training, he worked for Sparkassen Vertriebs und Immobilien GmbH between 2005 and 2013. In 2008 he started his own business in various branches of industry. Eroglu has been the independent branch manager of Sparkassen-Immobilien-Vermittlungs-GmbH since 2013.

Political career

At the age of 15, Eroglu joined Alliance 90 / The Greens . He became state chairman of the Green Youth of Hesse and left the party at the age of 29.

Eroglu has been a member of the Hessen Free Voters since 2012 . In 2013 he founded the Free Voters Youth Hessen. From 2013 to 2017 he held the office of state chairman of the youth organization of this party. As deputy state chairman of the Free Voters Hesse , he worked from 2014 to 2017 until he was appointed state chairman of the Free Voters Hesse in 2017. Since 2017, Eroglu has also been deputy state chairman of the independent voter groups Hessen (FWG).

In 2019, Eroglu was elected Deputy Federal Chairman of the Free Voters with 82.5% .

From 1998 to 2012 Eroglu was district chairman of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen. From 2011 to 2016 he was a member of the Schwalm-Eder district council . From 2012 to 2016 he was also on the city council of Schwalmstadt . He has been a city councilor for the city of Schwalmstadt since 2016.

Eroglu has been a member of the European Parliament for the Free Voters party since 2019 . He is a member of the European Parliament's Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs and a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Human Rights, Common Security and Defense Policy , as well as a member of the delegation for EU-Turkey and EU-Central Asia relations. He is a member of the Renew Europe Group and a member of the European Democratic Party. Eroglu has been a member of the European Democratic Party (EDP) since 2019 .
