Athletic career

Bott was in the gate of the company sports community (BSG) Chemie Bitterfeld until 1962 . In 1961 he was appointed to the squad of the GDR junior national team, for which he played his first of seven junior international matches on September 10, 1961 in the encounter between the GDR and Hungary (1-1). After he had played his last junior international match in May 1962, the BSG delegated him to the football center of the region, the SC Chemie Halle. There he was reserve goalkeeper behind Helmut Wilk, who was two years older than him, and had to replace him on the second match day of the 1962/63 season. In the encounter between Motor Jena and Chemie Halle on August 26, 1962, he only allowed one goal in the 0-1. Bott was also in the Halle goal in the following two league point games, but had to accept two goals in each game (2-2 against Dynamo Berlin, 1-2 at SC Wismut Karl-Marx-Stadt ). On September 5, 1962, Bott played his only European Cup match in the match OFK Belgrade - SC Chemie Halle (2-0). Then he was replaced by the 31-year-old Heinz Weise as a substitute goalkeeper, Bott was not used again in the SC Chemie league team. After two years in the reserve team, he was sent back to BSG Chemie Bitterfeld in 1964, where he played in the third-class Halle district league until 1970 .

In the 1970/71 season Bott was the second goalkeeper at the first division club 1. FC Lok Leipzig behind Werner Friese , whom he represented in two division games. Bott then moved to BSG Chemie Böhlen, which used him in their second team until 1973. He then moved to the first team that was playing in the second-rate GDR league at the time. In 1976 he left Böhlen and joined the GDR league club activist Espenhain .

In 1977 Chemie Böhlen was promoted to the GDR league. Since their regular goalkeeper Ralf Heine was not allowed to start for political reasons, the Böhlener brought Bott back and he played all 26 league games. Also in the 1978/79 season he was undisputed number one in the Böhlener Tor with 26 inserts, but his team had to relegate after two years of membership in the league. In the subsequent GDR league season 1979/80 Bott fell behind Thomas Fischer and Werner Friese in third place in the goalkeeper hierarchy and came only to five league stakes. Böhlen managed to return to the league immediately, and Bott got back the regular place in goal in his fourth league season 1980/81 with 23 point games. 1981/82 chemistry Böhlen had to play again in the GDR league, but fought his way up again, in which Bott was involved with 20 point games. After 15 missions in the 1982/83 league season, Bott had to relegate Bohlen for the third time. After the BSG Chemie in 1984 missed the renewed rise, Bott ended his career as a football player in the summer of 1984 at the age of 40.
