Thomas Fischer (soccer player, 1955)

Thomas Fischer (born March 21, 1955 ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper. Between 1978 and 1981 he played for Chemie Böhlen in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football .

Athletic career

From 1973 to 1975 Thomas Fischer was in goal in 20 league games for the second team of 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig , which played in the second-rate GDR league . In 1975 the team was relegated to the district league .

It was not until the 1977/78 season that Fischer reappeared in higher-class football. After moving to BSG Chemie Böhlen, he was part of their league squad, but was only used in one point game while he played most of the games in the junior league . Also in 1978/79 he had no chance against Freimuth Bott , whom he only replaced in a league game. After this season, Bohlen was relegated to the GDR league, where Werner Friese was his competitor with 15 league appearances in 1979/80 , which Fischer was only able to counter seven appearances. However, he was called up in three of the eight promotion games in which the BSG Chemie managed to gain immediate promotion. In the league season 1980/81 Bott returned as number one in the Böhlener Tor, and Fischer only played twice in the league, from which Böhlen immediately relegated. Fischer played his last season in Böhlen in 1981/82. Back in the GDR league, he was only goalkeeper number three and was only called up in one league game. For 1982/83 Chemie Böhlen still led him for the league collective, without being used again.

From 1983 to 1988 Fischer played at Motor Grimma . In 1984 he was Leipzig district champion with the team and rose with her to the GDR league. After he had been in goal in all 34 league games in 1984/85, he lost his regular place to Dietmar Sahlbach in the following season. He replaced this again as number one in the next two seasons. Although he was nominated again as the first goalkeeper for the 1988/89 season, he was no longer used in the GDR league. After four games in the league, 126 appearances in the GDR league and three promotion games, Thomas Fischer's career in GDR-wide football was over in 1988.
