Freinhausen is a district of the Upper Bavarian market Hohenwart . Until 1978 it was the seat of an independent community .

Geographical location

Freinhausen is located on the left edge of the valley of the couple who move northeast here , about 5.5 km northeast of the main town of the market town and about 12 km northwest of the eponymous district town of the Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm district . The parish village stretches a little way up the valley of a small left tributary of the couple.

In the area there are still the very small parish village Steinerskirchen with a monastery and pilgrimage church at the upper end of this valley as well as a mill opposite the main town on the right bank of the Paar, where the river flows into the short Gießbach .

Parish Church of St. Sebastian

Freinhausen was mentioned in a document at the beginning of the 12th century as the seat of a noble family. Their castle was burned down by the Swedes in 1632 during the Thirty Years War .

The hamlet of Steinerskirchen with its Sacred Heart Monastery also belonged to the independent community of Freinhausen formed with the community edict of 1818 . Until the regional reform in Bavaria in July 1972 she was in the district of Schrobenhausen . On January 1, 1978, it was incorporated into the Hohenwart store.

To the north-east of the town there is a Bundeswehr area that has been used by FlaRak units for a long time, but has now been completely shut down. In 2009, this site was acquired by LFK-Lenkflugkörpersysteme GmbH (Schrobenhausen), who would like to develop it as a test and integration site for air defense systems.

Attractions

The parish church of St. Sebastian with a Gothic tower was built in the 15th century and expanded in the Baroque style in the 18th century. On the sacristy door there is a relief from the Mount of Olives from around 1530. The neo-baroque elder was created by the Munich architect Joseph Elsner in 1910–1914 . The figure of Our Lady in the north side altar was made around 1630, the other altar figures are from the 17th and 18th centuries. Century. In the choir there are epitaphs of the Lords of Gumppenberg .
