Frido Frey (born October 26, 1921 in Germany ; † May 16, 2000 ) was a German basketball player . He is considered the first German player in the North American basketball league NBA .

Frey, who was born in Germany, emigrated to New York with his parents in the USA. In the 1945/46 season he completed 30 games in the ABL for the New York Gothams . For the Brooklyn Gothams followed 25 games in 1946/47, in the following season he was then for the Paterson Crescents in 33 games on the field. In 1948/49 there were again 36 missions for Brooklyn. Between these stations he played in the founding year of the NBA for the New York Knicks , was used there in 23 games and scored an average of 3.8 points.

After his sporting career, he became manager of a department store. Most recently he lived in Suffolk County in the US state of New York .
