Fridolin Aichner

Fridolin Aichner (actually Irmfried Benesch , also published as Fritz Benesch , born August 5, 1912 in Aichen , Austria-Hungary , † April 13, 1987 in Goch ) was a German-Moravian teacher and writer.

Life

Aichner was born as the son of a teacher in the Mährisch Sternberg district and grew up in Schönhengstgau . After graduating from high school in Mährisch Trübau , he studied German and Slavic studies at the Karl Ferdinand University in Prague , where he received his doctorate in 1936 with a dissertation on the phonetic geography of the beautiful stallion dialects . He then worked as a teacher in Neutitschein and Mährisch Trübau until he was drafted into the Wehrmacht in 1939 . After six years of military service and three years of imprisonment , Aichner came to Goch on the Lower Rhine due to the expulsion of the Germans from Czechoslovakia . There he worked from 1952 to 1955 at the Collegium Augustinianum Gaesdonck and then until his retirement at the municipal grammar school as director of studies.

In 1960 Aichner was awarded a sponsorship award from the Sudeten German Landsmannschaft . In 1966 he received the Schönhengster Culture Prize and in 1977 the East German Culture Prize .

Aichner published his first story, The Forest Comes Again , in 1951. In the period that followed, an extensive work of poems, plays, stories, novels and children's books was created, which often has an autobiographical background and deals with the coexistence of Czechs and Germans in Bohemia and Moravia. Despite the associated historical tragedy, Aichner's work is pervaded by the thought of reconciliation, which is not least supported by the repeatedly appearing humor.
