Fridolin Holzer

Fridolin Holzer (born September 29, 1876 in Weiler im Allgäu ; † September 25, 1939 there ) was a German publisher and poet , and mayor of his birthplace from 1921 to 1936.

Life

Fridolin Holzer was born in 1876 as the eldest son of the elementary school teacher Gebhard Holzer from Maierhöfen . He attended elementary school in Weiler and then the Oberrealschule in Ravensburg . In 1886 his father Gebhard Holzer acquired the Schwarz printing company in Weiler, which published the advertisement sheet for the western Allgäu and was henceforth editor and publisher of the newspaper. At the family's request, Fridolin Holzer decided not to study as a teacher and took over the printing company in 1902. He extended the range of the announcement sheet to the entire western Allgäu . At the age of 28, Holzer was elected 1st alderman of the market town. in theFirst World War he served as a lieutenant for four years . After the end of the war, he was mayor of Weiler im Allgäu until 1936 and was named honorary mayor upon his resignation.

Fridolin Holzer wrote poems mainly in the Alemannic West Allgäu dialect . A few lines of his poems can be read as an ingratiation to National Socialism .
