Friedel Anderson

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Friedel Anderson (* 1954 in Oberhausen ) is a German painter .

Life

Friedel Anderson grew up near Itzehoe and attended the Kaiser Karl School . He first studied art history at the University of Göttingen from 1974 to 1977, before switching to art studies at the Kassel University from 1978 to 1984 , where he was accepted into Manfred Bluth 's painting class . Anderson has been working as a freelance artist since 1985.

For a while he had his studio on the site of the former Alsen an der Stör in Itzehoe. The city is still the center of his life and work today. He brings back new impressions for his pictures from extensive trips in Europe and Africa.

In 1989 Friedel Anderson was awarded the Steinburg District Culture Prize. In 1994 he received the culture award of the study and support society in the culture ring of the Schleswig-Holstein economy and in 1995 a scholarship from the Landesbank Schleswig-Holstein art foundation.

In 1993/94 he taught at the University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg. In 2009 he was appointed to the Free Academy of Arts in Hamburg . Anderson left his entire graphic work - etchings, color etchings and lithographs - to the graphic collection of the Landesmuseum Schloss Gottorf . On his 60th birthday in 2014, the State Museum dedicated a major retrospective to him, and another major exhibition took place in 2019 at the Ostholstein Museum Eutin, which was dedicated to his pictures from 2014–2019.

Friedel Anderson's artistic work encompasses a broad spectrum of techniques and motifs, from landscapes painted in front of nature, city and harbor views to portraits and still lifes. The focus of the landscapes was initially the Nordic region. Later, regular trips through Europe (Italy, France, England) and Africa expand the subjects of his travel and landscape pictures. Anderson finds other focal points of his work in shipping, the industrial world of work - such as the Blohm + Voss and Howaldt shipyards or the Lufthansa base Fuhlsbüttel - as well as in the cultural and natural areas around ports, rivers and industrial ruins. Interiors and still lifes are also among the important subjects of Anderson. As with his landscape paintings, he succeeds in taking the viewer into the motif and letting him feel the place and its mood.

His table still lifes of set tables or abandoned tables after dinner are intimate and atmospheric depictions that he masterfully brings to the canvas. Even if the person himself is only represented in a few of his interior pictures, the human presence can be felt in the intensity of the representation and includes the viewer as part of the scene.

Friedel Anderson is counted among the painters group of the North German Realists , but his pictures go far beyond a naturalistic painting style in the manner described. Anderson has been turning to graphics again since 2019, where he often converts motifs from his oil paintings onto large plates and faces the special print-graphic challenges.
