The Ostholstein Museum goes back to the Society for Classical Studies and History in the Principality of Lübeck, founded in 1889, and the efforts of the Eutin pastor Heinrich Aye (1851–1923). In the same year the museum objects were exhibited - rather provisionally - in a room in Eutin. In 1884, the company first moved to the more suitable rooms for an exhibition in the former St. Georg Hospital (used as a school) - followed by further moves.

Others

The museum formerly known as the "Ostholstein Museum" is the museum of the city of Neustadt in Holstein .
