Heinrich Aye (born January 29, 1851 in Frestedt ( Dithmarschen ), † June 22, 1923 in Bad Schwartau ) was a German pastor , local researcher , founder of the Ostholstein Museum Eutin and archaeologist .

Life

Youth & Studies

Heinrich Aye was born in Frestedt in Dithmarschen in 1851 as the son of a teacher and organist and at the age of 12 he took over the organ for his father. After his father's death in 1866, he attended grammar schools in Meldorf and Husum , which he graduated from high school in 1872. He then studied theology in Leipzig , Kiel and Jena . He took his theological exams in Kiel and Arolsen .

Pastor in Eutin

On May 15, 1881 Heinrich Aye was pastor in Eutin , the capital of the Principality of Lübeck . There he founded a people's and youth library . At his suggestion were in 1885 a hostel for craft joined on the move and in 1888 one on homework founding organization ( "Eutiner House diligence"), which should improve the economic situation, particularly the elderly, founded.

In Eutin he became interested in the history of the city - in 1885 he published the "Uthinische Kirchengedächtnis", in 1891/92 - based on lectures he gave - "From Eutin's Past Days" - the first and for about 70 years the authoritative one History book for Eutin.

In October 1889, Heinrich Aye's appeal to found a local history museum appeared (the second in Schleswig-Holstein after the Meldorfer Heimatkundemuseum ). Thereupon the "Society for Antiquity and History in the Principality of Lübeck " was founded and the first museum objects were donated and a first exhibition was set up. In 1896 the museum was able to move into suitable rooms for an exhibition in the former St. Georg Hospital. Today's Ostholstein Museum Eutin emerged from this Aye initiative .

The archaeological excavations initiated by Heinrich Aye in the vicinity of Eutin brought Bronze Age and Iron Age finds to light .

Pastors in Stolberg, Osterweddingen and Schleiz

In April 1897 Heinrich Aye moved to Stolberg where he became pastor, consistorial councilor , court preacher and superintendent to Prince Wolfgang Georg von Stolberg-Stolberg - with whom he fell out in 1898, which is why he left Stolberg in 1900.

In the same year he became pastor in Osterweddingen (near Magdeburg ) from where he moved to Schleiz in 1903 as a church councilor, court preacher and superintendent .

Retired in Lichterfelde, Cologne, Hamburg and Bad Schwartau

In 1906 he retired and moved to Lichterfelde (near Berlin ), later to Cologne and in 1911 to Hamburg .

In 1915 he moved to Bad Schwartau in the Principality of Lübeck , where he died in 1923. He was buried in Eutin .

In 1879 Heinrich Aye married Johanne Marie Friederike Söht (born September 5, 1856 in Heide ; † May 18, 1916 in Bad Schwartau ) with whom he had a daughter and three sons.

Ayes son Julius Haye (born November 4, 1887 in Eutin, † November 7, 1914 in Tsingtau ) last served in the Imperial Navy as a first lieutenant at sea . He fell during the First World War in defense of Tsingtao against Japanese troops .
