Friedemann Schmoll

Friedemann Schmoll (born April 12, 1962 in Esslingen am Neckar ) is a German cultural and literary scholar and works as an author .

Life

Schmoll did his community service in the nature reserve Wollmatinger Ried on Lake Constance . From 1984 to 1991 he studied empirical cultural studies and modern German literature in Tübingen . In 1994 he received his doctorate with a study on the tension between national and regional culture of remembrance in Württemberg .

He worked as a journalist and museum advisor. From 1997 to 2002 he was a research assistant at the Ludwig Uhland Institute at the University of Tübingen . In 2001 he was in Tübingen with a dissertation on the history of the German nature conservation in 1900 habilitation . From 2003 to 2006 he was a researcher in the research group on the history of the German Research Foundation 1920–1970 Berlin-Freiburg-Heidelberg. There he oversaw the individual scientific project on the Atlas of German Folklore . He held visiting and substitute professorships in Marburg , Hamburg and Augsburg , as well as teaching assignments in Basel and Zurich .

Since October 2012 he has held a chair for ethnology (empirical cultural studies) at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena .

research

In his studies, he focused on the regional cult of monuments in Württemberg and the history of nature and environmental protection. He is also a hobby ornithologist .

With regard to the return of the wolf to Germany, Schmoll said in 2014: With the arrival of wolves as wild predators, we humans are confronted with the wild. We don't even know them here anymore.
