Friedenskirche (Duisburg)
The Friedenskirche is a Protestant church in the Duisburg district of Obermarxloh , Hamborn district , on Duisburger Strasse.
history
At the end of the 19th century, industrialization brought thousands of workers to the then still rural Hamborn. The Hamborn Evangelical Church was founded in 1893. After the use of temporary meeting places in the area, the call for a worthy place of worship became loud. The community decided to build a church, which the industrial family Morian was particularly committed to. The construction was mainly financed with donations and cost 117,000 Reichsmarks.
On March 8, 1985, the Friedenskirche was added to the list of monuments of the city of Duisburg under number 12 .
architecture
The foundation stone of the church was laid on October 31, 1895. The construction time was less than two years and was finished on July 22, 1897. The architect was Karl Doflein from Berlin , who based his planning on the then modern Wiesbaden program developed by Johannes Otzen . In terms of its floor plan, the Friedenskirche is a simplified miniature version of the Berlin Cathedral . The building material chosen was brick , which could be produced cheaply on site. The basement is based on the Romanesque style with small windows and thick walls , the upper floor with the large arched windows on the Gothic style . The pews form a semicircle open to the altar , pulpit and organ , dispensing with a central aisle , so that all church visitors have the same good view.
After the old bells had to be delivered in 1942, three new bronze bells were put into operation in 1953. They were cast by the Rincker company .
