The church

The Church of Peace St. Vitus is located in the Auerstedt district of Bad Sulza in the Weimarer Land district in Thuringia . It belongs to the Bad Sulza parish in the Apolda-Buttstädt parish of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

History and architecture

The western church closes with a polygonal apse . The tower in the east dates from the 12th century. Since the baroque reconstruction of the church in the years 1718–1722, it has been equipped with an octagonal tower top, tower clock , hood and lantern as well as church tower button and weather vane . The bell dates from 1588.

After the political change in the GDR , the tower hood, windows, doors and the ceiling were renewed. The organ was renovated . Since the 200th anniversary of the battle of Jena and Auerstedt in 2006, the church has been given the addition of the Friedenskirche . Of 19 March 2006 consecrated Bishop Christoph Kaehler the World Earth altar with earth from all over the world.

In front of the church there is a memorial to the 28 soldiers who died in the First World War and 44 who died in the Second World War .
