Friederike "Fri" Engel (born August 12, 1987 in Hamburg ) is a German soccer player .
Career
Friederike Engel began her professional football career in 2004 at the age of only 16 with the Bundesliga team of Hamburger SV. There she played until 2007 and took part in 78 Bundesliga games and received only six yellow and no red cards during the entire time .
In 2007, Friederike Engel left HSV to go to the USA and play college football there while studying at American University . In the three years she played 52 games in the Patriot League for the "Eagles" and was elected to the team of the best players in the league each year. In addition, she was voted “Rookie of the Year” in her first year and “Defense Player of the Year” in 2009. Engel was also very successful academically and was honored with the “Academic Honor Roll” every academic year, and after her final year of study, she was invited to the Phi Beta Kappa community.
The defender played again for the Bundesliga club Hamburger SV in the 2011/12 season . After HSV's exit from the Bundesliga, she ended her career for the time being.
International
In 2006 she took part in the German U19 national team at the U19 European Championship in Switzerland and played three games. In total, she played 11 games for German national teams.
