Friederike Welter

Friederike Welter (born June 1, 1962 ) is an internationally active German economist , university professor and president of the Institute for SME Research in Bonn . She has published fundamental findings on SME and entrepreneurship research - among other things, she published the handbook The Routledge Companion to Entrepreneurship together with Ted Baker (North Carolina State University / USA) , which provides a comprehensive overview of the various approaches and research directions in this area .

Live and act

Friederike Welter studied in Wuppertal and Bochum economics . In 2002 she received her habilitation from the University of Lüneburg .

From 1993 to 2006 she worked at the Rheinisch-Westfälisches Institut für Wirtschaftsforschung (RWI), most recently as deputy head of the competence area “Business start-ups and business development, craft, new technologies”. From 2005 to 2008 she taught at the University of Siegen as a professor for general business administration, especially management of small and medium-sized companies.

From October 2008 to January 2013 Friederike Welter was employed at the Jönköping International Business School in Sweden as professor for entrepreneurship and as vice dean for research. In addition, she held a visiting research professorship at the Small Business Research Center at Kingston University in England and taught as a visiting professor in international doctoral training at the Autonomous University of Barcelona .

Friederike Welter has been President of the Institute for SME Research in Bonn since February 2013 . In addition, she holds the chair for business administration, especially management of small and medium-sized companies and entrepreneurship, at the University of Siegen.

At the invitation of the President of the General Assembly of the United Nations Vuk Jeremić , Friederike Welter took part in the debate on “promoting entrepreneurship ” in New York in June 2013 . Together with other scientists, parliamentarians, entrepreneurs and representatives of NGOs , she discussed how a sustainable environment for business start-ups can be created at regional and national level as well as on the part of the UN, in order to continue to fight poverty worldwide.
