Friedhart Vogel

Friedhart Vogel (born March 1, 1941 in Görlitz ) is a German Protestant clergyman .

Career

Vogel was born in Görlitz. In 1961 he graduated from the Hermannswerder church college and then studied theology in Greifswald . He was ordained in September 1970. From 1985 he worked as superintendent of the Hoyerswerda church district.

He played a special role during the fall of the Berlin Wall . He acted as a moderator at the round table of the Hoyerswerda district . After learning of the xenophobic riots in Hoyerswerda in front of the asylum seekers' home on Thomas-Müntzer-Strasse, he went straight to the scene. Above all, he helped to bring mothers and children out of the home to safety and at the same time was able to have a calming effect on the angry population groups. In the same year he was chairman of the founding assembly of the Saxon State Authority for Private Broadcasting and New Media (SLM) and from 1996 a member of the media council.

Honors

Vogel was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon in 1996 and was the first Hoyerswerda resident to be entered in the new Golden Book of the city of Hoyerswerda. On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of his ordination, he was made the ninth honorary citizen of Hoyerswerda on October 30, 2010 .
