Friedhelm "Baba" Kobluhn (born April 12, 1936 , † March 30, 2007 in Bottrop ) was a German football player and coach.

Life

Friedhelm Kobluhn, son of a post office clerk and the brother of Lothar Kobluhn , played for Rot-Weiß Oberhausen when he was young. He came to RWO in 1946 on the recommendation of Karl-Heinz Feldkamp from VfR 08 Oberhausen, who was only three years older than him.

From the A-Jugend he made direct entry into the RWO combat team in 1954, which was then playing in the 2nd West Division. The first big success was the promotion to the league in 1957, from which Rot-Weiß was relegated in 1951. After the introduction of the Bundesliga, RWO qualified for the Regionalliga West. With Friedhelm Kobluhn as team captain - with his brother Lothar playing alongside him since 1963 - RWO became champions of the Regionalliga West in 1968 and was promoted to the Bundesliga. Up to this point he had scored 17 goals for Rot-Weiß Oberhausen in the Oberliga and Regionalliga. Between 1969 and 1971 he played a total of 35 games for Rot-Weiß Oberhausen in the Bundesliga in which he remained goal-free.

In the 72/73 season Kobluhn officiated briefly from November 1972 to February 1973 as interim trainer for the Red-Whites after Günter Brocker was banned for his involvement in the Bundesliga scandal . In seven games under his direction, Oberhausen scored five points before he was replaced by Heinz Murach in February 1973 - after the DFB RWO asked for a coach with the required license within a week .

Kobluhn remained at the club as Murach's assistant until the end of the season. In August he was punished by the DFB with the withdrawal of his training permit for four months because he had kicked Hertha player Michael Sziedat during an interruption in the game against Hertha BSC on February 17th .

In 1975 and 1976, when the club slipped into the association league and had a financial list, the now almost 40-year-old laced his shoes for RWO again. In total, "Baba" Kobluhn wore the clover-leaf jersey over 600 times, including 470 league games.

Financially independent after his footballing career, as he once noticed, he later worked as the hall manager of the city's Hans-Jansen-Halle.

Friedhelm Kobluhn died on Friday, March 30, 2007 at the age of 70 as a result of a stroke . He left behind his wife Inge with whom he was married for 43 years.

Trivia

The following anecdote has been passed down from Kobluhn: At the end of November 1958, the clovers traveled to Essen's Hafenstrasse. Friedhelm Kobluhn and “Boss” Helmut Rahn fought against each other with all fair and unfair means. Kobluhn let the Essener slide across the square many times, once even down to the cinder track. The angry spectators loudly demanded a dismissal for Kobluhn in this scene. But he leaned over the world champion lying in the gray ashes and shouted: "Don't mark it like that. You can't play football at all, you can only drink." But Helmut Rahn looked up to the RWO defender and replied: "And you can't do either!
