The Friedrich-Abel-Gymnasium is a general education high school in Vaihingen an der Enz .

history

The Friedrich-Abel-Gymnasium emerged from the Vaihingen Latin School , which existed before the Reformation . Important men like Johannes Brenz , the later reformer, like Philipp Friedrich Hiller , the poet of sacred songs, and Friedrich Abel , who gave the school its name, were students here.

From 1913 Vaihingen had a modern educational facility with the Latin and Realschule. The buildings for today's high school were built in 1963 and expanded in 1981 to include a specialist class building for science classes. Another building has now been added.

It is named after the German philosopher Jakob Friedrich von Abel , who was born in Vaihingen.

classes

The high school buildings were erected in 1963. In 1981 the subject class building, in which today mainly science lessons take place, was added. The area around the grammar school with the sports halls is in a traffic-calmed area, which is why a campus-like character was created.

At the Friedrich-Abel-Gymnasium, a natural science and a linguistic teaching profile is taught. English is taught as the first foreign language and Latin or French as the second foreign language. Since the 2005/2006 school year, fifth graders who have chosen Latin as their second foreign language have been learning two foreign languages right from the start. The students who have chosen French do not start until the 6th grade.

Since the 2006/2007 school year, students can also choose Italian as a third foreign language in the language profile.

Since the 2004/2005 school year, all pupils have been through the eight-year grammar school (G8).

Events and miscellaneous

In addition to working groups, there are annual project days at which pupils, teachers and parents are given the opportunity to offer projects under a specific theme. The students are free to choose their own project. The juice shop (lower level disco), the Abi prank, the Abi ball also take place every year.

In addition, the school newspaper, "Der Scholar", appears several times a year, and once a year the Abi sheet, written by the Abitur graduates.

FAG has a Polish partner high school in Łódź and maintains student exchanges with the American school in Warsaw . There is a partnership program with France with the French partner school Collèges Jules Michelet in Angoulême .
