Friedrich Adolph Kuhn (born September 2, 1774 in Dresden ; † July 29, 1844 there ) was a German poet and translator.

Life

Born into a family of civil servants, he attended high school in Freiberg and studied from 1793 at the University of Wittenberg the law . In addition, he began to develop his literary inclination, made the acquaintance of Novalis and Theodor Hell . In 1797 he went to the University of Jena , where he attended the lectures of Johann Gottlieb Fichte and approached the romantic movement.

Following his studies, he returned to Dresden as a lawyer and took an active part in the cultural and political life in the city. As a poet, he published his poems in magazines and yearbooks, which appeared in an anthology in 1820. When his magnum opus his translation is one of the most significant works of Portuguese literature - "Os Lusíadas" (the Luisaden) - from Luís de Camões of 1572. He dedicated this work to the politician Friedrich Wilhelm August Carl von Bose .

In 1833/34 and 1836/37 he was deputy member of the City of Dresden in the Second Chamber of the Saxon State Parliament .
