Friedrich August Henglein (born April 11, 1893 in Menzingen ; † June 22, 1968 in Bischofshofen ) was a German chemist and head of the institute at the Technical University of Karlsruhe .

Life

Friedrich August Henglein was born on April 11, 1893 in Menzingen (Baden) and studied chemistry from 1911–1912 at the Technical University of Karlsruhe . After a break of several years, Henglein finished his studies at the University of Heidelberg in autumn 1919 . For his dissertation he received the Viktor Meyer Prize from the University of Heidelberg.

In the following years he was an assistant at the Technical University of Danzig , where he completed his habilitation in 1922. In 1926, Henglein took over the management of the inorganic scientific laboratory of what was then IG-Farbenindustrie in Frankfurt am Main. In June 1933, Henglein, who joined the Kampfbund Deutscher Architekten und Ingenieure shortly after the National Socialists “came to power ” , became the chairman of the Rhineland regional association of the Association of German Chemists . In 1934 he returned to Karlsruhe to take over the management of the chair for chemical engineering. In 1939 he was a board member of DECHEMA . His son Arnim Henglein was also an important chemist.

Services

Henglein worked intensively in the field of chemical engineering. A selection of his work can be found in the following list.

  • Infrared drying in the non-hygroscopic range
  • Implementation of carbonyl compounds with metal amalgams
  • Production and properties of organic silyl compounds
  • Influence of copper compounds on the pressure oxidation of heavy metal sulfides
  • De-arsenic of copper
