Friedrich August Herkendell
Friedrich August Herkendell (* 1876 in Düsseldorf ; † 1940 there ) was a German painter and graphic artist.
From 1897 to 1902 Herkendell studied painting at the Düsseldorf Art Academy with Johann Peter Theodor Janssen and Willy Spatz , from 1903 to 1904 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Ludwig von Herterich . Between 1907 and 1912 he was based in Hamburg . He visited the Netherlands , Italy and France and stayed longer in Paris . In 1913 he came back to Düsseldorf.
Herkendell was a member of the Düsseldorf artists' association Malkasten from 1902 to 1903 and from 1920 to 1939, and a member of the Niederrhein group around 1920 . He mainly dealt with late impressionist landscape painting, with Düsseldorf cityscapes and architectural motifs.
Herkendell's younger brother Hanns (born June 2, 1886 in Düsseldorf; † 1958) was also a painter and graphic artist.
