Friedrich Böhm (born December 28, 1930 in Vienna , † February 28, 2013 in Berlin ) was an Austro-German engineer and university professor .

Life

After studying mechanical engineering and doing his doctorate at the Technical University of Vienna , Böhm completed his habilitation in 1966 with the text "On the Mechanics of Pneumatic Tires" at the Technical University of Stuttgart (today: University of Stuttgart). From 1970 to 1973 he was full professor for mechanics and vibration theory at the Technical University of Darmstadt , from 1974 to 1978 he was a member of the board of the Austrian company Semperit AG and from 1979 until his retirement in 1996 he was full professor for Mechanics, vibration theory and driving dynamics at the TU Berlin .

At the TU Berlin, Böhm opened up new fields of application for mechanics, particularly in vehicle construction and agricultural engineering. The specialist area of tire mechanics he built up received numerous project grants and became a special research area of the German Research Foundation .: From the establishment in 1986 to the end of the special research area in 1995, he was the spokesman for the special research area 181 "High-frequency rolling contact of vehicle wheels".

He found his final resting place in the Lichterfelde park cemetery .
