Friedrich Engel (master builder)

Johann Daniel Friedrich Engel (born September 20, 1821 in Danzig ; † May 13, 1890 in Berlin ) was a German architect and journalist .

Life

Friedrich Engel was a son of pilot commander David Engel and his wife Charlotte Friederike geb. Domanski. He received a craftsman training in the building trade with a final master's examination. In 1839 he began studying at the Berlin Building Academy , which he completed with a master builder examination as a private builder. He worked in the office of city planning officer Friedrich Wilhelm Langerhans and as a private master builder in Berlin. In 1846 he went to Wriezen / Oder as a private master builder. Through his acquaintance with Albrecht Philipp Thaer , a grandson of Albrecht Thaer , he turned to agricultural construction. From 1852 to 1856 he went on study trips to England, France and Belgium. From 1857 until its dissolution in 1881 he was a lecturer at the Agricultural Academy in Proskau / Upper Silesia and then took up residence in Berlin, where he mainly devoted himself to adding to and revising his works.
