Friedrich Franzl

Friedrich Franzl (born March 6, 1905 in Vienna , Austria-Hungary ; † August 18, 1989 in Vienna, Austria ) was an Austrian football player in the position of goalkeeper . He was a regular player for the Austrian national team from 1927 to 1929. With his club Admira he was able to become champions twice during this time .

Career

Franzl began his career in 1923 in Jedlesee with Admira. He quickly became the goalkeeper of the black and white team and was appointed to the Austrian national team by Hugo Meisl in 1926 . He made his debut in a 7-1 win over Switzerland . In the following season he was able to celebrate the first championship win in its history with the Admira and establish himself as the national team's regular goalkeeper. He lost only once with the team against Czechoslovakia - compared to ten wins and four draws. Nevertheless, from 1930 he was increasingly ousted from the Austrian gate by Rudi Hiden .

With the Admira, Franzl managed the feat of becoming runner-up for three years in a row after the double in 1928. After the 1931 season, the goalkeeper left Jedlesse and went to the Vienna Sports Club in Dornbach . Franzl could no longer play for the championship with the WSC. He was nevertheless called up in the squad for the soccer World Cup in 1934 , in which he was not used. At the end of his career, the goalkeeper had another great success in Dornbach when he reached the Austrian Cup final.
