Friedrich Gärtner (painter)

Friedrich "Fritz" Gärtner (born January 11, 1824 in Munich ; † 1905 there ) was a German architecture and landscape painter .

Life

Friedrich Gärtner first studied architecture with his father, the well-known Munich architect Friedrich von Gärtner . In 1840/41 he accompanied him on trips to Italy and Greece. From 1841 he studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Munich . There he was a student in the studio of the marine painter Niels Simonsen . Around 1846/47 Gärtner became a student of the genre painter Claudius Jacquand in Paris . But already in 1848 he traveled with the painter Eduard Gerhardt to Spain, North Africa and finally London. His return to Paris in 1851 was followed by a stay until around 1857. Gärtner then moved back to Munich. In 1870 he traveled again to North Africa.

Friedrich Gärtner was also one of the early members of the German Association of Artists .
