Friedrich Geissler (copper engraver)

Friedrich Geissler (also: Johann Martin Friedrich Geissler or Friedrich Geißler ; born March 31, 1778 in Nuremberg , † January 9, 1853 in Nuremberg) was a German draftsman, etcher and engraver .

From 1791 to 1797 Friedrich Geißler enjoyed an apprenticeship with the art dealer and publisher Johann Friedrich Frauenholz in Nuremberg. From 1797 to 1803 he was a student of Gustav Philipp Zwinger and of the friend and engraver Heinrich Guttenberg in Nuremberg. Between 1803 and 1814 he stayed with Albert Christoph Reindel in Paris, where they studied with their Nuremberg teacher Heinrich Guttenberg and at the École des Beaux-Arts . In 1812 Geissler took part in the Paris Salon . In 1814 he took up a job in Nuremberg as a vignette and landscape engraver.

From 1832 onwards he turned to steel engraving under the guidance of Friedrich Fleischmann .
