Friedrich Fleischmann was a student of the Preißler drawing school operated in Nuremberg as well as Ambrosius Gabler who worked there .

From 1808 he worked for the Campe'sche book, art, music and map dealer founded a few years earlier , with whose founder Friedrich Campe he undertook a trip to the Rhine , the Netherlands and England in 1814 , similar to Carl Ludwig Frommel later , who brought the technique of steel engraving to Karlsruhe from London in 1824 .

At the beginning of the 1830s, Fleischmann published a political, a funny cartoon of a journalist who thereupon incited "[...] the mob against him" to a riot that demolished his house. As a result, Fleischmann moved to Munich in 1831, where he died a few years later.

One of Fleischmann's students was Friedrich Geissler , who was instructed by Fleischmann in the art of engraving from 1832 and then formed the core of the “New Nuremberg School of Copper Engravers” with Heinrich Guttenberg and Albert Reindel .

Friedrich Fleischmann created almost 2000 engravings, mostly directly "[...] after nature", which "[...] are of value due to their striking conception", especially numerous portraits of his contemporaries, including von Blücher and Gneisenau, and King Ludwig the Queen Therese or Madame Catalani. He sometimes shortened his artist's signature to F. Fl. from.
