Ambrosius Gabler (born December 13, 1762 in Nuremberg ; † March 20, 1834 there ) was a German draftsman , painter and engraver .

Life

Born as the son of the tanner Nicolaus Gabler, who was also involved in art and miniature painting, he received his first drawing lessons from his father and learned copperplate engraving from Georg Paul Nussbiegel .

He created numerous portraits in copperplate and mezzotint, as well as genre scenes and flower pictures. Some picture collections have been published in book form.

His students included u. a. Johann Christoph Erhard , Friedrich Fleischmann , Christian Meichelt and Conrad Wießner .
