Friedrich Gottlob Leonhardi (sometimes also Friedrich Gottlieb ; born February 13, 1757 in Dürrbach , Oberlausitz, † July 4, 1814 in Leipzig ) was a German writer and economist .

Life

Friedrich Gottlob Leonhardi was born in the Sorbian farming village of Dürrbach on February 13, 1757 as the son of the economic administrator Friedrich Gotthelf Leonhardi, who looked after the economy of the von Metzradian estate in Dürrbach.

At the age of 18, Leonhardi attended grammar school in Bautzen from 1775 to 1778 , then studied philosophy and economics at the University of Wittenberg until 1781 and at the University of Leipzig for another year . He then worked as a private tutor in Leipzig for six years before he received his master's degree at the University of Jena in 1788 and gave several lectures on economics and related sciences.

After an educational trip through Franconia, the Palatinate and along the left bank of the Rhine, Leonhardi returned to the University of Leipzig and completed his habilitation there on April 14, 1790 with the thesis Symbolae ad Historiam Agriculturae veterum Germanorum Specimen primum . He then taught economics at the Philosophical Faculty and was there from December 8, 1792 until his death in 1814 full professor of economics, police and camera science.

Leonhardi was since September 13, 1805 a member of the great prince's college and since December 4, 1805 also a member of the permanent council. He was a corresponding member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina , an honorary member of the Herzoglich Sächsische Gothaischen Societät der Forst- und Jagdkunde zu Waltershausen and an honorary member of the Ökonomische Societät zu Leipzig.

Friedrich Gottlob Leonhardi died at the age of 57 on July 4th 1814 in Leipzig in the evening while going for a walk.
