Friedrich Grabowsky
Friedrich Johann Grabowsky (born January 27, 1857 in Marggrabowa ( East Prussia ), † January 26, 1929 in Breslau ), sometimes called Fritz Grabowsky, was a German zoologist , ethnographer , cave researcher and collector of bird hides .
Live and act
In 1881 and 1882 Grabowsky undertook his first research trips to Borneo , Java , India and Ceylon . In 1885 he founded the "Samoa Harbor" research station in the German Kaiser-Wilhelms-Land protected area in New Guinea and conducted ornithological studies. From 1891 he worked for Wilhelm Blasius as an assistant and inspector. At that time he founded a cave museum in Rübeland ( Harz ). In addition, he wrote for Carl R. Hennicke's work Naumann: Natural History of the Birds of Central Europe ("The New Naumann") the article about the bee-eater . In 1898 he wrote a treatise on the Lübbensteine , Neolithic graves near Helmstedt . In 1901 he became director of the Wroclaw Zoological Garden . The bird yield sent by Grabowsky to Königsberg was scientifically described by Blasius. His bellows collections from Hatzfeldhafen (1886/1887) and from Sepik (1887) are in the Berlin Zoological Museum .
On June 28, 1901 ( matriculation number 3146 ) he was elected a member of the German Academy of Natural Scientists Leopoldina .
