Friedrich Gumpert
Friedrich Adolph Gumpert (born April 27, 1841 in Lichtenau (Neustadt an der Orla) , † December 31, 1906 in Leipzig ) was a German horn player and professor at the Leipzig Conservatory .
Life
Gumpert was one of the outstanding horn players of his time. He was from 1864 to 1899 principal horn in the Gewandhaus Orchestra to Leipzig . In 1896 he was one of the founders of the Gewandhaus Wind Quintet. Together with the Kruspe company in Erfurt, he developed the horn model "Gumpert". He was a member of the Leipzig Masonic Lodge Balduin zur Linde .
Gumpert was very important as a teacher. From 1882 to 1906 he was Professor of Horn at the Leipzig Conservatory. During this time he had numerous students who became important horn players themselves. Among these, Anton Horner , Max Hess , Heinrich Lorbeer and Max Pottag later had a great influence on the development of horn playing in the USA . Gumpert published numerous sheet music editions, including a horn school and a number of orchestral studies for horn. Usually he is called "Gumbert" on these editions, a deliberately wrong spelling. He was confused with the well-known composer Ferdinand Gumbert , which was not wrong with him.
