Friedrich Hammer (born February 8, 1861 in Frankenstein in Silesia , † February 18, 1923 in Berlin ) was a German politician (DNVP).

Live and act

After attending elementary school and high school in Waldenburg , Silesia , Hammer completed an apprenticeship as a decorative painter. From 1880 to 1882 he was also taught handicrafts in Stuttgart . From 1885 to 1895 Hammer worked as a freelance decorative painter in Berlin . He then worked on a voluntary basis in commercial cooperatives.

From November 20, 1903 to November 15, 1918, Hammer was a member of the Prussian House of Representatives, first for Teltow , then for Pyritz , Saatzig and Stargard in Pomerania . Politically he stood out at this time, among other things, by his demand, put forward on behalf of the Mittelstandsvereinigung, to increase the department store tax.

Hammer took part in the First World War as a lieutenant in the reserve of the 1st Guard Landwehr Regiment . After the war, in which he was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class, Hammer settled in Zehlendorf as a pensioner.

In 1919 Hammer joined the German National People's Party (DNVP). For this he belonged to the constituent Prussian state assembly in 1919 . A year later, in the Reichstag election of June 1920 , he was elected to the first Reichstag of the Weimar Republic , in which he represented constituency 4 (Potsdam I) until his death in February 1923. Hammer's mandate was then taken over by his party colleague Emil Ebersbach for the remainder of the legislative period until May 1924 . Since June 1920 Hammer also belonged to the Provisional Reich Economic Council .
