Friedrich Horst Müller (* 1907 in Leipzig ; † 1986 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German chemist .

life and work

Müller studied mathematics, physics, geophysics and astronomy at the University of Leipzig from 1926 . From 1931 to 1935 he was an assistant at the Physics Institute of Peter Debye , where he received his doctorate in 1933 . From 1935 he worked in the central laboratory of Siemens & Halske AG in Berlin as a research assistant. In 1939 he returned to the Physics Institute in Leipzig as an assistant, where he completed his habilitation in polymer physics in 1941 . Like many other scientists, Müller was forcibly evacuated to Weilburg in May 1945 as part of Operation Paperclip . In 1946 he completed his habilitation in physical chemistry at the University of Marburg . After that he was there from 1946 initially a private lecturer , from 1950 an adjunct professor and from 1951 to 1953 he took over the temporary representation of the chair for physical chemistry. From 1948 to 1960 he set up a laboratory for polymers. From 1959 he was first associate professor and from 1960 then the first director of the newly founded Marburg Institute for Polymers. In 1967 he became a full professor of polymers, a position he held until his retirement in 1975.

His scientific work covers the dielectric and mechanical properties of polymers. He was editor of the " Kolloid-Zeitschrift ".
