Colloid society
The Kolloid-Gesellschaft is a Germany-wide scientific association based in Cologne . It was founded in Leipzig in 1922 by Wolfgang Ostwald . The purpose of the association is the maintenance and promotion of colloid science and its scientific and technical neighboring areas and the cooperation with other scientific related societies . The company currently has around 300 scientists from the fields of physics , chemistry , pharmacy and food process engineering.

To promote Colloid science are regularly conferences , workshops and symposia organized various academic awards and scholarships awarded and a journal (Colloid and Polymer Science) published.

Zsigmondy Scholarship
Named after Richard Zsigmondy , this scholarship is awarded to younger German scientists who want to work in the field of colloid research. The scholarship is 1,500 euros (as of 2011) and has been awarded since 1961.

Named after Thomas Graham , this prize is awarded for special services to colloid science in a national and international context as well as to international cooperation in the field of colloid science.

This award was given for general advancement of colloid research. Leonard is the maiden name of the wife of the initially anonymous founder Martin H. Fischer , the exact identity of the namesake is unknown. After the Second World War , this prize was no longer awarded.
