Max Samec

Max Samec , Maximilian (Maksimilijan) Samec, (born June 27, 1881 in Kamnik , † July 1, 1964 in Ljubljana ) was a Yugoslav chemist.

Samec, the son of a doctor, received his doctorate in inorganic chemistry from the University of Vienna in 1904 . Then he was an assistant at the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics , where he also carried out balloon flights. He was the founder of the chemistry department at the University of Ljubljana and the founder and head of the Boris Kidrič chemistry institute of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Ljubljana.

He dealt with the chemistry of carbohydrates and especially starch .

In 1938 he received the Laura R. Leonard Prize of the Colloid Society and in 1940 the August Wilhelm von Hofmann memorial coin . He was chairman of the Slovenian Chemical Society and a member of the Leopoldina .
