Friedrich I. (Austria)
Friedrich I , called the Catholic or the Christian , (* around 1175; † April 16, 1198 on the journey home from Palestine ) from the Babenberg family was Duke of Austria from 1194 until his death .
Friedrich I was the son of Duke Leopold V. He succeeded his father in 1194 and took part in the crusade of Emperor Heinrich VI in 1197 . to Palestine. During the return trip to Austria, Friedrich I died unmarried on April 16, 1198. He was buried in the Heiligenkreuz Abbey in Lower Austria .
His younger brother Leopold VI. inherited the duchy.
