Friedrich IV. Of the Bergh

Friedrich IV von dem Bergh (born August 18, 1559 in Ulft ; † September 3, 1618 ) was a military commander, initially in the general state and later in the Spanish service during the Eighty Years War .

Life

He was the second son of Wilhelm IV von dem Bergh and his wife Maria , daughter of Wilhelm von Nassau , nephew of Wilhelm I of Orange .

In 1598, after decades of dispute, Friedrich was granted the rights to the glory of Boxmeer . After the death of his mother Maria in 1599, Friedrich's sister Anna moved from Ulft to Boxmeer and took over the government for him until 1609.

As royal commander in chief of the cavalry he took part in the campaign of 1598/99 under Admiral Francisco de Mendoza .

Marriage and offspring

On February 8, 1601, Friedrich von dem Bergh married Françoise de Ravenel , Baroness von Renty (* 1583; † August 2, 1629 in Dixmuiden ) and had the following descendants:
