Friedrich Kummer (internist)

Friedrich Kummer (born June 17, 1938 in Krems ) is an Austrian internist and pulmonologist .

Life

education

Friedrich Kummer studied medicine at the Medical Faculty of the University of Vienna , received his doctorate in November 1962 and joined Karl Fellinger as assistant doctor at the II Medical University Clinic in Vienna a year later . After stays at the First Surgical University Clinic in Vienna and at St. Joseph's Hospital in Milwaukee / Wisconsin (USA) in 1964/65, he continued his internal medicine training with Karl Fellinger. From 1966 he began the construction of a Pneumology , in a lung clinic and Bronchoskopieeinheit could be established.

Professional background

In 1970 he completed his specialist training in internal medicine, became clinical senior physician at the 2nd Medical University Clinic in Vienna and finally completed his habilitation in 1975. In the years that followed, Kummer tried to re-establish and strengthen the connection between internal medicine and the now modernized lung subject.

In 1980 Kummer was appointed head of the 2nd Medical Department of the Wilhelminenspital and in the same year he was awarded the title of Associate University Professor. From 1992 to 2007 he worked as a court-certified expert for internal medicine and completed his second specialist training in lung diseases in 1993. In 2003, he settled on Wilhelminenspital emeritus .

Friedrich Kummer was President of the Austrian Society for Lung Diseases and Tuberculosis in 1997 and was a member of its board for many years. In 2008 he was made an honorary member of the Society of Doctors in Vienna and currently holds the office of Vice President.

In 2003 he was chairman of the 13th annual congress of the European Respiratory Society in Vienna. Until 2012 he was co-editor of the international journal "Respiration" and is currently still of the trade journal "Imago Hominis".

Kummer is a supernumerary of Opus Dei and was represented on the board of trustees in its Hohewand education center .

Friedrich Kummer is the father of the journalist Susanne Kummer ( Kleine Zeitung , Die Presse ), who became managing director of the Vienna Institute for Medical Anthropology and Bioethics (IMABE) in 2013 and has also been the press spokesperson for the Austrian Opus Dei section since 2014.

Kummer wrote about 200 scientific publications as well as numerous contributions to books. He wrote about 100 scientific papers, as well as about 150 printed lectures and training articles. He is also the co-editor / editor of several books.
