Friedrich Leuthaus

Friedrich Leuthaus (born April 10, 1812 in Siegen , † May 9, 1887 in Wiesbaden ) was a royal Prussian major general and most recently president of the engineering committee.

His parents were the rent master Johann Konrad Leuthaus and his wife Karoline von Seckendorf .

Life

He attended grammar schools and Siegen and Koblenz, and from 1830 he devoted himself to construction. But on November 17, 1832, he volunteered in the 8th Pioneer Division. There he was posted to the United Artillery and Engineering School from October 1, 1833 to September 30, 1836 . On October 16, 1834, he was transferred to the Portepeef Ensign and on October 2, 1835 as an aggregated second lieutenant in the 3rd Engineer Inspection. After his return, he was sent back to the 8th Pioneer Division on October 1, 1836, and reassigned on April 2, 1840. On November 14, 1840, he was appointed adjutant of the 8th Pioneer Division and on January 22, 1843, he was transferred to fortification services in the fortress of Cologne . From there he came to the fortress Jülich on October 1, 1845 for the fortification service . He was then promoted to 2nd Adjutant of the 3rd Engineer Inspectorate on April 29, 1847 and on March 27, 1848 to Premier-Lieutenant.

On November 1, 1850, he came to the General Command of the Mobile VIII Army Corps on the 2nd Engineer Officer. But on December 31, 1850 he was transferred to the adjutantage as a captain and also 1st adjutant of the 3rd Engineering Inspectorate. From there he came as a commander in the 2nd company of the 7th engineer division, on March 25, 1856 he was appointed commander of the 4th engineer division. Promoted to major on July 1, 1860, he came to Cologne on March 15, 1862 as an engineer officer . Promoted to Lieutenant Colonel on June 18, 1865 and awarded the Order of the Crown, 3rd Class , on January 18, 1866 . During the mobilization for the German War of 1866, he was transferred to the mobile II Army Corps on May 10, 1866 as first engineer officer. During the war he fought at Gitschin and Königgrätz . On July 10, 1866, he was appointed inspector of the 1st fortress inspection while leaving his field position. On September 7th he also took over the business of this inspection and was awarded the Order of the Crown with the swords on September 20, 1866, and on December 31, 1866 he was promoted to colonel with a patent from October 30, 1866.

On May 17, 1867, he was transferred to the 3rd Pioneer Inspection as an inspector and commissioned to inspect the Baden Pioneer Battalion. On July 18, 1870, he was transferred to the High Command of the Second Army, where he became the commander of engineers and pioneers. During the Franco-Prussian War fought at Vionville , Gravelotte , Orleans and Le Mans . He was also in the siege of Paris and the battles at Montoire and Epuisay, where he earned the Iron Cross 2nd class .

After the war he returned on July 4, 1871 again inspector of the 3rd Pioneer Inspection and received on August 18, 1871 the character of major general. As early as October 18, 1871, he was promoted to major general with a patent on August 18, 1871 and was transferred to the first engineering inspection as an inspector. In addition, he was on December 16, 1871 inspector of the combined artillery and engineering school and was in front of it. On October 12, 1872, he came to the 4th Engineering Inspectorate as an inspector and on April 12, 1873, President of the Engineering Committee. On January 18, 1874 he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with swords . He was put up for retirement on April 13, 1875 , and was awarded the Order of the Crown, 2nd Class with Swords . He died on May 9, 1887 in Wiesbaden.

Leuthaus married on May 15, 1855 in Munster Jeanette Karoline Julie Emma Delius (March 1, 1833 - May 4, 1910), a daughter of the accountant Franz Karl Delius (1787–1861). The couple had at least one son:
