Friedrich Lorenz Schmidt

Friedrich Lorenz Schmidt (born February 8, 1886 in Zeulenroda ; † July 30, 1970 ) was a Thuringian native writer .

Life

Born the son of a hosiery weaver , Schmidt attended a teachers' seminar in Greiz, Thuringia, after graduating from school and then returned to his hometown of Zeulenroda. From 1903 to 1954 he worked as a teacher. Schmidt dealt with the history of Zeulenroda from an early age. In 1912 he wrote the first article about it. In the course of time Schmidt wrote 100 historical essays, which were published in the local press and specialist literature, and became known as a local writer beyond the borders of Zeulenroda.

Schmidt did a great job at the Zeulenroda Adult Education Center before 1933 . Among other things, he saved one of the three trade union libraries located throughout Germany from being destroyed by the National Socialists.

Friedrich Lorenz Schmidt earned high merits from the city of Zeulenroda in his longstanding activity as archivist and historian. His largest edition was the history of the city of Zeulenroda , which was created between 1935 and 1953 .

He was honored with the title "City Archivist", which he received from the city in 1938. Since the foundation of the Zeulenroda district in 1952, he has worked as a volunteer conservationist. Since 1954 he has been a full-time archivist and in 1958 received the title "State-certified archivist". In October 1969, at the age of 84, he left his place of work, the Zeulenroda city archive.
