Friedrich Ludwig Mecklenburg , from 1871 from Mecklenburg (born March 28, 1821 in Zickhusen , † October 29, 1884 in Ludwigslust ) was a Prussian officer , most recently a colonel .

Life

He was the son of the forest inspector Ludwig Mecklenburg in Zickhusen and his wife Agnes, née von Ladiges.

Mecklenburg embarked on an officer career and served in various cuirassier regiments. He was very close to nature and also occupied himself with gardening and landscaping. During his service in the Cuirassier Regiment No. 2 in Pasewalk from 1844/56 and 1860/69 he made a great contribution to the green design of the city. The planting of the Pasewalker Marktplatz with a double row of linden trees goes back to him , as well as the planting of linden tree avenues along the roads leading out of the city . Between 1865 and 1867 a park was built on Stettiner Chaussee, which today belongs to Bundesstrasse 104 , between Schützenstrasse and the New Cemetery, on his initiative, which was later named Mecklenburg's Ruhe after him .

In the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71 he took part as a major in the cuirassier regiment No. 3 . On the occasion of the entry of the victorious German troops into Berlin on June 16, 1871, he was raised to the nobility by Emperor Wilhelm I as King of Prussia “because of the bravery shown in the war against France against the enemy” . On January 18, 1872, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel. He last served as the commander of the Cuirassier Regiment No. 3. Sick and incapacitated since October 1873, he received his farewell on February 16, 1874 and was promoted to colonel at the same time.

Since January 19, 1874, Mecklenburg was married to Bertha, née von Hünerbein (born August 30, 1850 in Cologne).

In 1934 the city of Pasewalk had a memorial stone erected in memory of Friedrich Ludwig von Mecklenburg and his work with the inscription: "Mecklenburg's Ruhe".
