Friedrich Riecke

Friedrich Joseph Pythagoras Riecke , from 1862 von Riecke (born June 1, 1794 in Brno , † April 13, 1876 in Stuttgart ), was a Württemberg mathematician and forest scientist.

Life

He was the son of the protestant pastor Heinrich Riecke from Stuttgart and was born while he was working at the Brno evangelical community. He is the scion of the Riecke family in Württemberg . In 1803 the family moved back to Stuttgart where he attended grammar school. From 1811 to 1816 he studied theology, mathematics and various scientific subjects in Tübingen . In 1816 he became the educator of the Prince of Hohenlohe-Ingelfingen, in 1818 repetent at the theological seminary in Tübingen and in 1822 private lecturer in mathematics in Tübingen. In 1823 he became a professor of mathematics and physics at the agricultural and forestry academy in Hohenheim , where he taught until his retirement in 1864. In 1850 he became a teacher and in 1852 a senior teacher. In 1862 he received the personal nobility with the award of the Knight's Cross of the Order of the Württemberg Crown .

He published on mathematical and financial aspects of forestry, agriculture, conic sections and other geometric topics (such as imaginary quantities in geometry) and astronomy.

Leopold Sokrates von Riecke , professor of surgery and obstetrics in Tübingen, and Gustav Adolf Riecke , rector of the teacher training seminar in Esslingen, were his brothers.
