Leopold Sokrates Riecke , from 1838 von Riecke , (born October 10, 1790 in Brno , † April 26, 1876 in Stuttgart ) was a German gynecologist , surgeon and university professor .

Life

Riecke is the son of the evangelical preacher Victor Heinrich Riecke and was born in Brno in Moravia while he was working . He is offspring of the Riecke family and, together with his brother Friedrich von Riecke, first attended the institute of Hofrat Christian Karl André and then the Stuttgart grammar school illustrious . He then studied at the universities in Tübingen , Vienna , Göttingen and Würzburg . In 1811 he became a military doctor and as such was involved in the campaigns of the Wars of Liberation from 1813 to 1815. In 1812 he was promoted to senior physician . He returned to the University of Tubingen and was there with the dissertation Utrum funiculus umbilical Nervis polleat to careat 1816 Dr. med. PhD . He then went on a journey. In 1819 he established himself as a general practitioner in Stuttgart.

Riecke was appointed as an associate professor of medicine at the University of Tübingen in 1820 . In 1827 he was appointed full professor and given the chair of surgery and obstetrics. From 1843 until he was called to Stuttgart in 1848, he only had to represent obstetrics. In his time in Tübingen 1838/1839 he was the rectorate of the university . In Stuttgart he then worked as a senior medical adviser and was also an honorary member of the medical college. As early as 1838, King Wilhelm I of Württemberg honored him with the Knight's Cross of the Order of the Württemberg Crown , which was associated with the personal nobility.

In addition to Friedrich von Riecke, Gustav Adolf Riecke was also his brother.
