List of the rectors of the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There has been a rector of the University of Tübingen since the university was founded in 1477 by Count Eberhard im Bart . Johannes Vergenhans (known as Nauclerus) was the first rector of the University of Tübingen in the winter of 1477/78 . The office of rector at the head of the university administration was higher than that of the chancellor and was usually held for a semester by a professor from the university. Since 1537, the rector's office could also be regularly transferred to noble persons who did not belong to the university's faculty. From 1767 to 1793, for example, Duke Karl Eugen, as sovereign, was also rector ( Rector magnificentissimus ). The actual official business was carried out by the Vice-Rector during this time. In 2010 the University Archives of Tübingen published a list of all rectors since 1477.
