Karl von Scheurlen (legal scholar)

Karl Friedrich Christian Scheurlen , from 1839 von Scheurlen , (born March 30 or 31, 1798 in Stuttgart ; † January 4, 1850 ibid) was a German lawyer , university professor and politician .

Life

After attending school in Stuttgart and at the Evangelical Theological Seminary Maulbronn studied Scheurlen 1815 law first at the University of Tübingen , then at the University of Göttingen , where he in 1818 to Dr. jur. received his doctorate. During his studies in 1816 he co-founded the old Tübingen fraternity Arminia and in 1818 became a member of the Germania Tübingen fraternity . After stints in Stuttgart and Ulm , he was appointed professor for civil and criminal procedural law in 1823 , and he also gave lectures on canon law . In 1832/33 and 1837/38 he was the rector of the University of Tübingen .

In 1838 Scheurlen was elected as a member of the second chamber of the Württemberg estates . There he represented the city of Tübingen until 1844 and the Oberamt Ludwigsburg until 1848 , and he was vice-president of the second chamber for the 14th state parliament . On January 20, 1839, he was appointed Obertribunalrat at the Obertribunal Stuttgart and was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of the Württemberg Crown in the same year , which raised him to the personal, non-hereditary nobility .

On October 3, 1842 Scheurlen accepted the office of director of the Evangelical Consistory for Württemberg, and from 1848 he was named President. He died of a heart attack .

The Württemberg Minister of the Interior, Karl von Scheurlen, is one of his children .

From 1826 to 1830 Scheurlen was co-editor of the critical journal for law in Tübingen .
