Karl Friedrich Scheurlen , from 1867 von Scheurlen , (born September 3, 1824 in Tübingen , † April 1, 1872 in Stuttgart ) was a lawyer, civil servant and interior minister of the Kingdom of Württemberg .

Scheurlen was born as the son of Professor Karl von Scheurlen (* 1798, † 1850) and Charlotte, born Pfizer (* 1802), a cousin of Paul Pfizer , and grew up with several siblings.

Career

Scheurlen attended the Lyceum in Tübingen and from 1839 the grammar school in Stuttgart. Scheurlen then began studying law at the University of Tübingen in 1841 , which he completed in 1846 with the first higher judicial service examination. During his studies he joined the Germania Tübingen fraternity . After a legal clerkship at the Stuttgart City Court and the Tübingen Court of Justice, he underwent the second higher judicial service examination in 1847. Now he was appointed judicial actuary at the Oberamtsgericht in Heilbronn , 1850 judicial assessor , 1851 senior judicial assessor in Ellwangen at the court of the Jagstkreis . In 1856 he was appointed chief magistrate in Mergentheim and in 1863 he was promoted to chief justice officer at the district court in Esslingen .

Ministerial official

In May 1865, Scheurlen became a lecturer in the Department of Justice and Attorney General . In 1867 he took part in the negotiations of the Federal Liquidation Commission in Frankfurt am Main and in the same year became a Real Councilor of State and a member of the Privy Council . In 1868 Scheurlen dealt with the laws on the court system and criminal process in the course of the upcoming judicial reform.

Scheurlen had been pursuing the idea of ​​forming a faction of the conservatives in the second chamber of the estates in support of government policy since the late 1950s . His first attempt to enter the state parliament in 1862 failed. From 1870 to 1872 he represented the voters of the Oberamt Gaildorf in the chamber of representatives of the Württemberg state parliament.

Since March 23, 1870 Schuerlen was provisional head of the Department of the Interior in the Ministry of Varnbuler and from August 31, 1870 with the title Minister of State head of the same department in the Midnight government . From 1871 he was an authorized representative at the Federal Council .

Private life

Karl von Scheurlen was a Protestant and married Eva Katharina Pfreindt († 1888). Several children were born from the marriage. Among them are Fritz von Scheurlen (* 1858, † 1927), the president of the ministerial department for building construction and the conservative politician Ernst von Scheurlen (* 1863; † 1952).
