Gottfried Hoffmann (born May 13, 1669 in Stuttgart , † December 8, 1728 in Tübingen ) was a German Lutheran theologian as well as professor and rector at the University of Tübingen .

Life

Gottfried Hoffmann enrolled in Tübingen in 1681 to study in the Protestant monastery , at the same time he was a discantist . In 1685 he got the Mag. Art. and then studied theology. In 1688 he went on an educational trip. In 1691 he became city vicar in Stuttgart, from 1692 deacon at St. Leonhard, the hospital and collegiate church in Stuttgart. At the same time he was a preacher and confessor to the widowed Duchess von Mömpelgard. In 1707 he became a full professor for logic and metaphysics in Tübingen, and at the same time Ephorus . In 1716 he became an associate professor for theology (4th chair). In 1717 he was promoted to Dr. theol. doctorate and became full professor of theology (4th chair). In 1720 he was first the 3rd and then the 2nd full professor of theology. In 1713 and 1722 he was rector of the University of Tübingen.

His portrait, painted in 1710, hangs in the Tübingen professors' gallery .
