Live and act
Christoph Friedrich Pfleiderer was born on October 20, 1736 in Kirchheim unter Teck as the son of the official surgeon Johann Christoph Pfleiderer (1693–1789) and his wife Justina Regina. Greiner (1705–1789) born. His birthplace (today: Max-Eyth-Straße 20) has been preserved. After attending the Latin school in Kirchheim / T. and the Protestant seminaries in Blaubeuren and Bebenhausen , he was accepted into the Evangelical Monastery of Tübingen in 1755 . In addition to studying theology, he devoted himself to the fields of mathematics, physics and astronomy. In 1757 he received his doctorate under Johann Kies in Tübingen with an astronomical treatise. He then worked as a vicar in Laichingen and Frickenhausen and as a private tutor.
After about three years as the scientific secretary of the mathematician Georges-Louis Le Sage in Geneva , he became professor of mathematics and physics at the Military Academy in Warsaw (Academy of the Cadet Corps or Knight School) in 1766 on his recommendation and was also a member of the commission for examining and writing school books in the Kingdom of Poland, where he also appeared as a sponsor of the mathematician Simon L'Huilier , with whom he later became friends. In 1781 Pfleiderer was appointed professor of mathematics and physics at the Eberhard-Karls-Universität Tübingen as the successor to his teacher Johann Kies .
His most important student was Johann Gottlieb Friedrich von Bohnenberger . Other prominent listeners of his lectures were the brothers Wilhelm A. Diesterweg and Adolf Diesterweg or the later bookseller and publisher Johann Friedrich Cotta . Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel , Friedrich Hölderlin and Friedrich Wilhelm Schelling also attended courses with him .
Private life
Pfleiderer married Johanna Friederike Gaum (1756–1822) in Tübingen in 1782. With her he had a daughter, Christiane Luise Pfleiderer (born January 23, 1796 in Tübingen; † October 28, 1868 in Enzklösterle ). She married the pastor Georg Heinrich Gmelin (1796–1850).
Pfleiderer became particularly well-known for his private library, which eventually became part of the Tübingen University Library . It contains works from the 16th to 18th centuries on mathematics, physics, astronomy and technology .
He was a member of the Electoral Brandenburg Society of Sciences and the Bavarian Academy of Sciences . When he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of Civil Merit , he was also raised to the Württemberg nobility in 1808 .
