Christoph Matthäus Pfaff (born December 25, 1686 in Stuttgart , † November 19, 1760 in Gießen ) was a Protestant theologian.

Life

He became professor of theology in Tübingen in 1717 and was also provost and chancellor of the university from 1720 . After an incident in 1756 he was transferred to Giessen , where he was professor of theology, chancellor of the university and general superintendent until his death (1760) .

Along with Johann Franz Buddeus and Siegmund Jakob Baumgarten, Pfaff is considered to be the most important pioneer of theological enlightenment within German Protestantism. He took up pietistic elements, but interpreted them in the spirit of the Enlightenment.
