Adolf Theis (born March 24, 1933 in Karlsruhe ; † December 24, 2013 in Berlin ) was a German lawyer and from 1972 to 1995 President of the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen .

Life

After studying law and passing the second state examination in law, Adolf Theis took up a position as a government assessor in the Reutlingen district office. He then worked for five years in the Stuttgart Ministry of Agriculture. From 1965 to 1968 he was a senior administrative officer at the Agricultural University in Hohenheim . In 1968 he became a senior councilor in the Federal Ministry of Science, where he worked on the draft of the university framework law for scientific research. In 1970 he was a ministerial advisor and consultant for planning methods and planning technology in the Federal Chancellery.

In May 1972 Theis was elected President of the University by the Great Senate of the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen. Theis received 104 of the 138 votes cast at the time, while his most important competitor Ignaz Bender, senior administrative officer at the University of Trier, only received 20 votes. Theis took office on October 1, 1972. As a motto, he stated at the time: "I went to Tübingen because I believe that the university president must attract conflicts and keep the teaching staff free from conflicts." He held this office for 23 years with two re-elections.

In 1997, Adolf Theis and his wife Masako Katagami-Theis founded BPT AG , a consulting and planning company for clinics, senior citizen and spa facilities. She chose two leaves of a ginkgo tree from her Japanese homeland as the company logo - a symbol of stability, tenacity and sincerity. The ProCurand AG , originally founded as a subsidiary of BPT consulting and planning GmbH, was initially a collection and restoration company. The company was founded in 1999 on the basis of many years of experience in the health sector and is now active as the operator and owner of senior facilities as well as a service provider for operating companies in the social and health sector. In the federal state of Brandenburg, ProCurand has become the largest private provider of senior citizens' facilities within five years of its foundation. The non-profit ProCurand GmbH now runs 24 senior citizens' residences in the federal states of Berlin, Brandenburg, Saxony-Anhalt, Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. The non-profit ProCurand GmbH includes two other companies, the Gemeinnützige Biloba GmbH (outpatient nursing service) and the R + Z-Servicegesellschaft mbH (purchasing, cleaning & catering).

Awards

Adolf Theis held an honorary professorship and six international honorary doctorates (Prof.eh Dr.hcmult.). In 1989 he received the University Medal of the Medical University of Pécs . He was Prof. eh from Heilongjiang University , Harbin . He was an honorary senator of the University of Tübingen.

In 1995 he received the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class; In 1996 he became an honorary citizen of Tübingen .

Adolf Theis Foundation

The Adolf Theis Foundation was established in honor of the former President of the University on the occasion of his departure. The purpose of the foundation is to promote international relations at the University of Tübingen in research and teaching. Primarily, young scientists and eligible students from partner universities in Eastern Europe, Latin America and emerging countries and the University of Tübingen should receive prizes and grants for study and research stays.
